1939 11:00 Pasted papier mache all morning + worked this afternoon + tonight at Gloria’s. – When I collect what I have coming (Fantle’s + Seven) I’ll have $17 to spend for clothes. – Mentally it’s already spent!! E. went to the dance with Julian

1940 10:30 Surprise! I lived through that awful first day. I think I’m going to get along okay. Every one has been very swell to me. I hope I can make them like me – I’m going to bed sans lesson planning!

1941 Tue Bob is back – he is thin + serious; I think he has grown up more, too. He was over tonight + seemed absolutely dead!

1942 WED 5 FELLAS WERE OVER TONIGHT… RATHER A STRAIN… Mother WAS OWLY… BUT WE GOT THROUGH THE EVENING SANS mishap. MISTER PAYNE, however, LEFT QUITE EARLY. I DON’T KNOW WHY; BUT I HOPE HE WAS ANNOYED.
