JULY 1

10:30 Went down town with E + Mother. E. bought her silver It’s beautiful. Ate dinner with the girls. Marjorie was home.

8:00 Ironed… played tennis all afternoon… Thought about Leonard… I’m dead… I’m going to bed, to sleep, I hope.

Hell, is this what I came for? – I feel uncertain of myself, not exactly happy – Nuts… Sand in my bed, bugs in my room – eating too much – Wish I’d been in opening play tonight!

WED SOCIETY of LOWER Basin STREET… that’s ALL I REMEMBER.

THURS A letter from Pomona, Calif. (oh what a long way off). Which I read on the bus going down to Stotes’ for dinner. A beautiful evening. Chilled rum + Pineapple juice, candle-lit dinner, art talk, Chopin, another drink. Mr. brought me to the bus.
